Cease and Desist Letter
What this letter does
This letter tells a debt collector to stop contacting you, or to contact you only in writing. Use it when a collector keeps calling you at work after you asked them not to, calls early in the morning or late at night, or will not stop. Sending it does not make the debt go away, and it does not close your dispute.

Box 0000 Sampleville, ST 00001 RE: Demand to cease communications — Your reference MRP-0000-SAMPLE Sent via certified mail, return receipt requested To whom it may concern: This letter is formal notice under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1692c(c), that I am directing you to cease all communication with me regarding the account referenced above. Since April 2026 I have received repeated telephone calls from your office, including three calls to my place of employment on May 6, May 11, and May 14, 2026, after I told your representative on May 6 that I cannot receive such calls at work. I have also received calls before 8:00 a.m. on two occasions. I have kept a log of each contact, including the date, time, number, and the name given by the caller. Effective upon your receipt of this letter, do not contact me by telephone, text message, email, or in person, at home, at work, or through any third party. Under § 1692c(c), the only further communications permitted are: (1) to advise me that your collection efforts are being terminated; (2) to notify me that you or the creditor may invoke a specified remedy that is ordinarily invoked; or (3) to notify me that you intend to invoke a specified remedy. Any such notice should be sent in writing to the address above. Please be aware that I will continue to document every contact after the date you receive this letter. I reserve the right to file complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and my state attorney general, and to pursue any remedies available to me under the FDCPA and applicable state law, for communications that violate this request. This letter is not an acknowledgment that I owe the amount you claim, and it does not waive any dispute or right I have regarding this account. Do not use it if you still want to talk with the collector to work something out. Once they have to stop, they may go straight to their next step, which can include a lawsuit.
