Before You Pay · the rule, in plain words

The same procedure, billed twice. It happens more than you think.

Pull the itemized statement with the codes, not the summary. Look for the same code on the same date. Look for a "kit" charged once and then every item in the kit charged again. Match each line to the statement your insurance sent, the one that says "this is not a bill"; if insurance flagged a duplicate, that is your evidence. Then ask, in writing: "Please explain line X and line Y." Two of the same code can be right (both sides of the body, two sessions, the hospital bills the taking of an x-ray and a separate radiologist bills the reading). That is why you ask, not accuse.

Do not want to read codes? BillFighter finds the lines that repeat and writes the question for you.

Check your bill — free

The check is free. The letter is the paid part: you print and mail it yourself, or we send it by certified mail for you. No account needed to start.

This is the general rule, in plain words. BillFighter is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. If you have been served with court papers, that is the day for a lawyer or legal aid.
